A. Tansman Violin Concerto, Five Pieces for violin, Four Polish Dances, Dance of the Sorceress, Polish Rhapsody.

Bernard Le Monnier (conductor) IIf there is to be a resurgence of Interest in the music of the Polish-born composer Alexandre Tansman (1897-1986), this superb disc could well prove to be the catalyst, though Tansman created a very personal musical voice, It can be seen as having directly descended from his compatriot Szymanowski. In addition the outstanding Violin Concerto of 1937 bears more than a passing resemblance to the concertos by Prokofiev. It is surprising that young virtuoso firebrands have yet to discover this work. Cast in four contrasting movements, it bristles with overt virtuosity and showmanship, the driving rythms of the outer movements compensating for a lack of memorable thematic material.
The Polish-born French violonist Beata Halska is absolutely superb …. a brilliant display of pyrotechnics and impeccable intonation. Tansman’s lack of Instantly memorable melody continues through Halska’s dazzling dexterity in the Five Pieces, and she is equally stunning in the short Movement perpetual, a work that must tie your left-hand fingers in a knot. Tansman Incongruously clothes the Four Polish Dances in French dress, the country of his adoption, with the influence of lbert ever present. This and the remaining works on the disc are purely orchestral and display the strong colours of the Rimsky-Korsakov tradition that was current in Poland during Tansman’s education.The recording, made by Polish radio, has a natural concert hall perspective and exemplary balance between the soloist and the excellent orchestra. Fervently recommended.

Znakomita skrzypaczka nasyciła te wszystkie kształty linii melodycznej prawdziwym życiem, siłą, żarliwością i uczuciowością. Taką mocną, „męską” grę kobiet cenię najwyżej. Artystka pokazała też jakby „na marginesie” swojej gry niebotyczne mistrzostwo techniczne i oszałamiający temperament wirtuozowski. Dzięki temu Koncert h-moll Saint-Saënsa mógł objawić wszystkie swe walory. Tak wielce pozytywne wrażenia wspierały się również na znakomitej grze orkiestry prowadzonej pewnie i z wyczuciem solistki przez jej małżonka. Po przerwie styl romantyczny ustąpił miejsca jutrzence impresjonizmu – Poematowi Chaussona. Skrzypaczka ukazała tu bardziej kobiecą stronę swej wrażliwości, niezwykle subtelnie cieniując dynamikę i barwę fraz muzycznych, nie stroniąc od typowej dla siebie gry żarliwiej i niezwykle emocjonalnej, a to znakomicie służyło złożonemu stylowi muzyki Chaussona. Owacyjnie uhonorowana przez publiczność na bis zagrała Jana Sebastiana Bacha Largo z III Sonaty C-dur (a nie Andante z II Sonaty a-moll, jak powiedziała moja szanowna koleżanka, Magdalena Gajl, recenzująca koncert na antenie Radia Białystok), stojące jakby na antypodach do granej przed chwilą muzyki Chaussona. Dzięki radiowej „Dwójce” usłyszałem w niedzielne przedpołudnie piękne nagranie Koncertu skrzypcowego Aleksandra Tansmana w wykonaniu tej samej pary artystów i Orkiestry Polskiego Radia.
